How to adjust your ergonomic office chair
Comfort’s ergonomic office chairs offer exceptional adjustability for users with a diverse range of body types. With over a dozen adjustable features, the chairs – including Ergohuman, Mirus, and Enjoy – are suitable for home offices, or hot desking when people need to change the chair setup to accommodate different users.
Our chairs have been designed with straightforward controls and a wide range of positional settings to accommodate people of most anthropometric measurements. Setting the chair up correctly is crucial for reducing tension, pain, and pressure on the back, shoulders, neck, and thighs.
How to adjust our ergonomic office chairs
Comfort’s office chair range features over a dozen adjustable settings each. If your chair has a headrest, legrest, and coat hanger, you’ll find a total of 16 adjustments. Setting up the chair correctly ensures
healthy posture and incredible comfort.

Adjusting the seat
Start by adjusting the seat height until your feet are flat on the floor, your thighs are parallel to the floor, and your knees form a 90-degree angle. To change the height, remain seated and lift the lever on the right of the chair to lower the seat. To raise it, take your weight off the chair and lift the lever.
Next, adjust the seat depth to fit the length of your thighs, leaving a 3 cm (or two-finger width) gap between the seat front and the back of your knees. Push the lever on the right of the chair forward while you're seated to slide the seat into position.
The seat tilt feature allows you to synchronise a forward seat tilt with the back of the chair, providing additional support to the thighs, lower back, and abdominal area when leaning into the desk. Push the lever on the left down at the front and lean back to release the forward seat tilt. Please note that this feature only works when the chair is in free-float mode. To lock the seat angle and back, return the right lever to the neutral position.

Adjusting the backREST and lumbar SUPPORT TENSION
To adjust the backrest, push the lever located on the right side backwards and lean back into a comfortable position. If you prefer to use the free-float mode, leave the lever in this position. Alternatively, return it to the centre to lock the backrest. We recommend using free-float mode to encourage dynamic movement during work. This mode facilitates micro-movements, which can help prevent prolonged stationary positions and reduce the risk of back discomfort.
Set the backrest recline resistance to your weight when using free-float mode. Rotate the long spindle on the right forward to increase the resistance and rotate backwards to reduce it. You should be able to sit in an upright position with support from the backrest, while also being able to recline by gently pressing back. This gives you balanced support.
Next, adjust the backrest height to ensure it aligns with the natural curvature of your spine and lumbar. The seat's curved lumbar should fit snugly against your lower back. Reach behind the chair and lift using the back bar. To lower the backrest, lift it to its highest point and then lower it to the bottom setting. You can slowly lift it to your desired position.
Finally, adjust the lumbar tension to fine-tune its pressure. Use the dial on the backrest (Ergohuman) or the knobs on the lower backrest (Mirus and Enjoy) to increase or reduce lumbar resistance.
Adjusting the 5D armrests
All our mesh office chairs feature 5D adjustable armrests. You can adjust their height, width, angle, depth, and tilt for your comfort. For the best posture, keep your elbows close to your body and your shoulders relaxed.
To adjust arm height, lift the armrests to your preferred position. To lower them, lift them to the top and lower before lifting them to your desired height.
To adjust the depth, slide the arm pads forward or backwards for customised support. Adjust the arm pads to change the width, ensuring your shoulders and arms sit naturally by your sides with your elbows close to your body.
Pivot the arm pads inwards or outwards to help position your shoulders, neck, forearms, and hands for mouse and keyboard work.
Tilt the armpads up for comfortable wrist support when using handheld devices or reading a book. Lift to the top angle to release, then return to its neutral position.
Adjusting the headrest
The angle and height of the
headrests can be adjusted. To adjust the angle, pivot the headrest to support your neck and head, particularly as you recline. Lift or lower the headrest to comfortably fit into the curve of your lower neck.
Adjusting the legrest
Turn the wheels on either side of the
legrest to release it. Lift the frame and unfold the mesh legrest. Elevating your legs is especially comfortable when reclining, as it helps maintain a healthy posture.
Using the coat hanger
The final customisable feature is the pop-up coat hanger. The coat hanger provides a safe and convenient place to hang your coat, ensuring it doesn’t compromise the chair's comfort or create a trip hazard. Lift the arms to pop the coat hanger up and press the button under the centre to drop them.
The simple levers on the Ergohuman office chairs
The Ergohuman office chairs are easily adjustable via a few simple controls. With an ingeniously straightforward design, the single lever control operates the three most frequently used chair functions: seat height, seat depth, and back tilt.
On the right, an extended tension lever rotates to set the backrest recline resistance. A separate dial on the backrest adjusts lumbar tension. On the left side of the chair, a simple tilt control operates the forward seat tilt.
There are four levers, dials, or controls in total, making it easy to remember. Everything else can be adjusted directly; for example, you can raise or lower the armrests to adjust their height.
The importance of ergonomic office chairs
An ergonomic office chair is a crucial investment for anyone who spends a few hours at a desk. Even if you don’t suffer back pain, ergonomic seating will reduce the chances of future aches and pain while ensuring you practice healthy posture.
From a business perspective, ergonomics improves workplace safety, increases employee happiness, and decreases worker compensation costs.
When investing in an ergonomic office chair like the Ergohuman Elite G2, you must customise the settings to suit your anthropometric measurements. Otherwise, you may not experience the full benefits of its ergonomic design. Whether you’re setting up your chair for the first time or need to recalibrate it (in the event of hot-desking) regularly, it only takes a minute to achieve an entire day of sustained comfort and support.
